Letters to My Children... Dear ___________,
I am watching the first episode of Highway to Heaven. I used to watch it when I was a kid. I think that you would like it. I am surprised that there is so little wholesome programming. I wish there were more. And good things feed me spiritually. Much of the rest of it is like poison. And it seems like ideas are at the core of what makes it good or bad. Ideas... And it is so easy to be lead down a path - lead to a good place or a bad place. The world can mean so many things. And we look at the world through the lens of ideas. So, perhaps it is what we think about things that matters most. And what we really need is a right set of ideas about what we see and experience. In the show, Michael Landon (he's an angel who goes around posing as a normal person in order to help people) takes a job at a nursing home. When he gets there, everyone is sitting around like old people do in nursing homes, staring off into space. He then plants flowers and gets the old people outside to help him with the gardening. That cheers them up. That's where I am at in the show. And the oven just broke down. So he suggests doing a barbecue. Of course, the people are all excited for that and they have hamburgers and hot dogs out on the lawn. Hamburgers and hot dogs... It's so funny - so strange. And the people came to life at the idea of eating outside. And it is the thought, really, that did it. The same thought can mean other things to other people at other times. For one, a teenager flipping burgers at the local fast food restaurant, it may mean drudgery. For another whose veins are full of plaque, it may mean death. But for those old folks that day, it meant life, and hope, and joy - A new lease on life - A gift from God. So it seems like ideas are important. And it seems important too that we desire to be able to do the right thing at the right time. And perhaps all we are doing, when we do that, is presenting others with a better set of ideas. I sure love you - so much more than I can say! And I pray that that God will bless you with eyes to see things through the best set of ideas possible. Love always, Dad Comments are closed.
